RHFH Video

You are going to laugh, because I have yet another video I want you to watch. Lori, the nurse at the clinic I visited in Haiti, posted this on her blog. This shares exactly what their heart is and the mission that God has called them too. Mr. Zach shares God's call on us, the church, to get in the game. So watch! and pray about how God wants you to get in the game of redeeming this lost world.

I have chosen my Idol

Before you get all excited and email me about the sin of idolatry, know that I am talking about my American Idol. I really don't get into reality TV, but over the Christmas Holidays I started watching this season of American Idol. Confession: I don't regret it. At all. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this show from the hilarious, awkward out takes to the emotional, tug-on-my-heartstrings Top 13 competition. After 6 intense weeks, and much deliberation I have decided to full heartedly support Kris Allen. Not only is he incredibly talented, but he loves Jesus. He has been consistently getting better each week and his story is true to the competition of American Idol: A small town guy, who probably wouldn't make it on his own. This week he had by far the best performance when he took a risk and sang "Falling Slowly" from the movie Once. Simon told him "You were absolutely brilliant" and let's be honest, Simon's opinion is the only one that really matters. You can download this on iTunes.

I have posted a lot of videos lately. Hmm...

Cardboard Boxes

I made it back to Austin Sunday night in time to be at the Stone's Easter Service. The worship was intoxicating and God spoke through Matt and wrecked me out. Remember last week when I was asking God to let me feel the weight of my sin that nailed Him to the cross? Yeah, He did it. And it was good. Hard, but good. You should click here to download and listen to the sermon. Matt did a phenomenal job defining what the Bible says a true Christ Follower looks like.

Following the sermon, this video was shown. Watch it. Seriously, the whole thing. (Remember to scroll down and pause the music on this blog, and give the video a minute or so to download)

Cardboard Stories from The Austin Stone on Vimeo.

As partners of the Austin Stone shared their hurts and sin and suffering, and claimed a promise of God, I sat and wondered what would my cardboard box say? Who was I before Christ? How have I turned from Darkness to Light? I am still wrestling with that into this week. I would encourage you to consider it too. What does your box say? Does it even have another side?

Paul talking about the day he met Jesus...

And I said, 'Who are you, Lord?' And the Lord said, 'I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, 17 delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles— to whom I am sending you 18 to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me Acts 26: 15-18

The Crucifixion: A Medical Perspective

I hope this Easter weekend, whatever you are doing, you make the time to reflect on Jesus' death on the cross and what it means for you. I found this video and wanted to share for those who might find a medical perspective of the crucifixion interesting. I have always loved anything related to medicine and anything related to my Jesus, so needless to say, I think it's awesome.

Happy Easter friend, Jesus loves you so very much!

I will Rise

I haven't been able to stop listening to this song this week. I watched a video of Chris Tomlin talking about why he wrote it. He said it was for the church, when they find themselves in the hardest times of life. Burying your parent. The loss of a job. Cancer. Holding a child as his life is taken by hunger. A broken heart. This suffering, these injustices are just not right. But those of us who know Jesus have Hope. Hope that there is a day coming when all will be made right.

In revelation, John shares what he saw when he got a glimpse of Heaven...

"Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing." Rev 5:11-12

At times, I long so much for that day. On Saturday, I will watch a friend bury his father. I can't fall asleep some nights because the faces of these sick children haunt me. I can't bear it, Jesus. But there is the Hope that on that day, I will rise.

I don't know if you are in the midst of the hardest days of your life. Maybe these are the best days. But I pray you have Hope, because when the hardest times come, I have found that He is the only thing that can sustain me.

There is a Fountain

In preparation for this Easter Sunday, I am praying that God would allow me to feel the gravity of Christ's death on the cross. I want to wake up every morning and feel the weight of what my sin cost Jesus that day on Calvary. His life. His seat on the throne. His relationship with the Father.

It is only after feeling the weight of my sin and the fact that there is nothing I can do to earn God's love, that I truly experience the miracle in the statement "He is not here, for He has risen"

Tonight, at First Tuesday Prayer Service we sang the old hymn, There is a Fountain. I love the lyrics and I think they reflect the spirit of Easter. (scroll down to the bottom of this page and hit pause on the music before watching the video)

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day;
And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away.
Washed all my sins away, washed all my sins away;
And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.
Be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.

E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die;
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.

Lord, I am just as the dying thief who hung next to Jesus that day. Because of Your blood shed on that cross, I have life. Thank you Jesus that you took my sin so I can walk in freedom. Thank you that Your blood covers it all. My pride. My hurtful tongue. Pain. Suffering. Even Death. Jesus, You conquered Death, so that I could spend eternity with you. Death has lost it's sting.

I pray this Easter week you would know the God who died on the cross to redeem your life.

I love you!

Totally clean

"Lord, take us to the creek,
just as my wife went yesterday
to the creek.
She took off her dress,
beat it with a paddle,
bathed herself in the water.
She dried her dress in the sun,
put it on, and came home to me.
Totally clean."
- Haitian prayer from God is No Stranger

Do you know that God can make you totally clean? I hope you rest in that this Sunday Morning.
